Cart & Checkout

Cart & Checkout is where product selections become an order.

What this feature is for

Cart & Checkout is where all store configuration meets: products and promotions establish merchandise totals; tax and shipping use the customer/cart context; TruPayments supplies payment choices; the result becomes an Order.

Customer-facing TruCommerce shopping cart

The cart holds the customer’s selected items before checkout calculates the remaining delivery, tax and payment choices.

A practical way to use it

  1. Add representative products to the cart and verify quantities/prices.
  2. Apply a coupon when testing promotions.
  3. Enter billing/shipping addresses that exercise your important zones.
  4. Confirm tax and shipping totals/options.
  5. Choose a payment method and complete a test payment.
  6. Open the resulting Order and TruPayments Transaction to confirm both sides recorded the same outcome.

How it connects to other features

Guest/account behavior comes from Store Settings. Shipping depends on address/Zones/Methods. Tax depends on tax settings/categories/rates. Payment methods come from TruPayments and its gateway add-ons.

Customer-facing TruCommerce storefront

Customers normally enter the checkout flow from products made available through the storefront.

What to expect after changes

Checkout is the best end-to-end test after changing store policy. A failure at the final payment step does not necessarily mean product/tax/shipping configuration is wrong; follow the flow stage by stage.

Field and action reference

Use the tables below when you need the exact meaning of a field, column, filter or action. Read the workflow and dependency sections above first so each option is used in the right context.

The public application provides cart add/update/remove actions, coupon apply/remove, checkout estimation/submission, and checkout payment return/cancel/success flows. Opening Checkout with an empty cart sends the customer back to Cart; checkout only proceeds when the cart contains purchasable items.

How TruCommerce builds the checkout total

Checkout recalculates the order from the current cart instead of trusting a previously displayed total. Product prices are combined with eligible promotions/coupons, shipping, and tax rules. This is why changing an address, coupon, shipping option, or product quantity can change the final amount.

Customer Flow

  1. Add an available product to the cart.
  2. Open Cart and review quantities/items.
  3. Apply a coupon if one is available and valid.
  4. Continue to Checkout once the cart contains purchasable items.
  5. Choose an available payment method supplied through TruPayments.
  6. Complete the gateway or manual payment step.
  7. Follow the resulting success/cancel/failure page and order status.

Test payment methods before launch

A configured store does not make a gateway ready automatically. Validate TruPayments and the selected gateway in sandbox/test mode before accepting live orders.

Cart and checkout designs

The cart page, the header mini cart, the checkout and the order confirmation and payment-failed screens each have several finished designs, chosen in Store Settings (see Storefront Designs). The Cart and Checkout blocks of the Page Builder place them on a page of your own with their own design choice (see Blocks & Widgets). If customers cannot complete checkout, see the Store FAQ.
