Attributes describe structured product properties—such as size, color or another selectable/specification value—and can participate in product variation and filtering workflows.

Attributes define selectable or descriptive product characteristics and are part of variation-capable product setup.
Attributes describe structured product properties such as size or color. They can be informational, filterable and—most importantly for Variable products—used to create purchasable combinations whose price/stock can differ from the parent product.
Variable Products depend on Attributes/values to define customer choices. Storefront filter widgets can also use attributes. Variation-level stock/price can override what you might expect from the parent product.
Removing an attribute/value used by variations can make product combinations unavailable or inconsistent. Plan reusable values before building a large variation catalogue.

Attributes describe reusable product characteristics and can become the basis of variable-product choices. Create attributes before building many variable products so values such as Size or Color remain consistent across the catalog.
