Store Settings define commerce-wide behavior that should be settled before configuring tax, shipping and catalog rules.
Store Settings define TruCommerce-wide policy and presentation. They control the selling context around products: where the store sells, currency/units, tax behavior, shipping behavior, stock holding/notifications, reviews, guest/account checkout, POS and the default layouts used by storefront screens/widgets.
These settings belong here in the TruCommerce documentation because many of them only make sense when read together with Products, Zones, Tax Rates, Shipping Methods and Checkout.
Tax settings control how Tax Rates are interpreted and displayed. Shipping settings work with Shipping Zones/Methods. Inventory defaults interact with each product’s Manage Stock/threshold settings. Layout defaults can be overridden by individual widgets/resources where the UI exposes a more specific choice.
A global setting can affect every product or checkout. Before changing tax inclusion/display, selling locations, guest checkout or stock holding on a live store, test a complete order and review the customer-facing totals/messages.
TruCommerce settings fall into two kinds. Operational settings change what the store accepts or calculates—selling countries, shipping, tax, coupons, inventory, checkout and POS. Presentation settings change how catalog/cart/checkout components are laid out without changing prices, validation or order data.
Two external dependencies matter
Public Shop/Cart/Checkout/Account destinations can be assigned in Core Settings → Page Setup. Payment choices and gateway eligibility come from TruPayments.
The commercial foundation: whether the store is open, where it sells/ships, whether tax/coupons are enabled, and the currency used by TruCommerce.

Selling and shipping limits are separate
A country can be allowed for checkout but still not be a valid shipping destination for shippable products. Configure both rules to match your real service area.

Controls how long unpaid checkout carts reserve stock and when low-stock warnings are sent.

Hold stock is temporary reservation
Unpaid checkout carts can reserve stock for the configured number of minutes. This helps prevent overselling but may temporarily make units unavailable to other shoppers.

Tax Rates still need to exist
Enabling tax and choosing a calculation basis does not create rates. Configure Tax Categories/Tax Rates and the relevant geography before expecting tax to appear.
Controls when shipping choices are revealed to the customer. Destination eligibility still comes from selling/shipping locations and Shipping Method zones.
