Creating and Managing Pages

Pages are the lasting destinations of your website — Home, About, Services, Contact, Terms. Each page has an address, a status that decides whether visitors can see it, search and social-sharing details, a few presentation options, and content that you design in the Page Builder.

The Manage Pages list with page titles, authors, status badges and action icons

Pages → Manage Pages. Pages that play a special role, such as the front page, are labelled next to their title.

Pages and posts

Use a page for content that stays put and is reached from the menu: About, Pricing, Contact, a landing page for a campaign. Use a blog post for dated articles that are listed together, grouped by category and tag, and commented on. Pages do not have categories, tags or comments.

Create the page → Set the status and options → Design the content in the Page Builder → Add it to a menu → Preview and publish

The Manage Pages list

Open Pages → Manage Pages. Use the search box above the list to find a page by title, and Create New to add one.

Column / controlMeaning
ImageThe page’s featured image, if one was uploaded. It is also the picture used when the page is shared on social networks.
TitleThe page title. A small grey label after it (for example Front Page, Blog Page, Contact Page, Privacy Page, Terms Page) tells you the page has a special role — see Special pages below.
Language flagsWhen you have more than one language enabled in Languages, each extra language gets a flag column. A green + adds a translation of the page in that language; a pencil edits the existing translation.
AuthorThe user who created the page.
StatusActive pages are published and can be visited. Inactive pages are hidden from visitors.
View (eye)Opens the public page in a new tab. For special pages it opens the address that TruCMS uses for that role (for example the blog index for the Blog page).
Page Settings (gear)Opens the settings form: title, address, search details, image and presentation options.
Edit Content (pencil)Opens the Page Builder for the page’s content. Pages whose content is produced by TruCMS itself, rather than designed by you, do not show this icon.
Delete (bin)Permanently deletes the page. Ask for confirmation first, and see the warning below.

Before you delete a page

A deleted page cannot be restored. If the page is selected in Settings → Page Setup or linked from a menu, visitors will find a broken link. Replace those references first.

Creating a page

The Create Page form with title, slug, excerpt, SEO settings, OG settings, featured image and page settings

Pages → Create Page. The left column holds the page text and search details; the right column holds the image and the presentation options.

  1. Open Pages → Create Page.
  2. Type the Title. The title is required and is shown as the page heading (unless you switch Show Page Title off).
  3. Check the Slug (see below), write an optional short excerpt, and complete the search and social details.
  4. Optionally upload a featured image and adjust the page settings on the right.
  5. Choose Save. You return to the list with a confirmation message. The page is created without content: choose Edit Content to design it.

New pages start switched on

The Page Status switch in the settings is on by default, so a new page is public as soon as it is saved — with no content yet. Switch it off while you are still building the page, then switch it on when it is ready.

Text and address

FieldWhat it does
TitleThe name of the page. Used as the heading, in menus when you add the page, in the browser tab and as the default search-result title. Required.
SlugThe address of the page: the slug about-us gives https://your-site.com/about-us. Use lower-case letters, numbers and hyphens. If you leave it empty TruCMS creates it from the title. Each slug must be unique across pages and posts. Change an existing slug with care: links that were shared or indexed will stop working.
ExcerptA short passage that summarises the page. Themes and lists can use it as the summary line.

Search and social sharing

FieldWhat it does
Meta titleThe title that search engines display for the page. Aim for 50–60 characters. If empty, the page title is used.
Meta DescriptionThe summary shown under the title in search results. Aim for 120–160 characters.
OG titleThe title shown when the page is shared on social networks and chat apps.
OG DescriptionThe short description shown with the shared link (50–160 characters).
Featured ImageThe picture shown with shared links. Use 1200 × 630 pixels for the best result.

Page settings: presentation

The Page Settings card lets one page differ from the rest of the site. Every control starts at Default (or Inherit theme defaults), which follows Theme Options. Change a control only when this page needs different behaviour. For example, a landing page might have a transparent floating header and no breadcrumbs.

SettingEffect on this page
Page StatusOn = published and visible to visitors; off = hidden. Visitors who open the address of a hidden page see the “page not found” screen. Administrators can still open the page in the Page Builder.
Floating HeaderYes lets the header float over the top of the first section instead of sitting above it. Ideal for pages that begin with a banner or hero image.
Header StyleChooses the header look for this page: Default, Flat (clean and modern) or Rounded (softer).
100% Header WidthStretches the header across the full screen width rather than the normal content width.
Header Background ColorOverrides the header background colour on this page.
Is Header Dark?Tell TruCMS the background is dark, so the logo and links switch to their light versions and stay readable.
Header ShadowTurns the shadow below the header on or off.
Sticky HeaderKeeps the header at the top of the screen while the visitor scrolls.
Show BreadcrumbsShows or hides the “Home / Page” trail above the content.
Show Page TitleShows or hides the page title heading. Turn it off when your own content starts with a large heading of its own.
Page breadcrumb settingsChoose Inherit theme defaults to follow the site-wide breadcrumb design, or Override for this page to change the breadcrumb background, text colour, spacing and mobile visibility for this page only. Reset removes all page-specific breadcrumb choices.

Header choices are described in detail elsewhere

The header look itself (layouts, top bar, sticky behaviour) is designed in Header Layouts and Top Bar. The page settings only override those choices for one page.

The Page Settings form of an existing page

Pages → Page Settings (gear icon) for an existing page. The same form as Create Page, filled with the page’s values.

Designing the page content

The text fields above describe the page; the body of the page is designed in the Page Builder. Choose the pencil icon on the list. The Builder lets you insert ready-made sections and full-page layouts from the Template Library, add dynamic blocks (blog posts, advertisements, contact form, booking and shop blocks) and bind sections to your own providers, services and products.

Special pages

Some pages have a job of their own. You pick them in Settings → Page Setup (and the privacy and terms pages in Settings → General), and TruCMS marks them in the list with a label:

LabelUsed forNotes
Front PageThe home page, shown at your site’s root address.Required. Designed in the Page Builder.
Blog PageThe page that lists your blog posts, at /blog.Its heading, search box and layout come from TruCMS; the page controls the title, search details and header options.
Contact PageThe page that carries your contact form, at /contact.Add the Contact block to the page in the Builder.
Privacy Page / Terms PageThe pages linked from the footer, the cookie notice and the registration forms.Select them in Settings → General (privacy and cookie section).
Booking and Shop pagesPages that Booking and TruCommerce use for services, providers, the booking wizard, shop, cart, checkout, account and order tracking.Appear once the module is installed. See Booking Settings and TruCommerce Settings.

If you do not select a page for a role, TruCMS cannot show that destination. When you import a website template, TruCMS creates these pages and assigns them for you.

Pages in several languages

Each page can hold one translation per language. The page address stays the same in every language; TruCMS shows the visitor the translation that matches the language they chose in the language switcher, and falls back to the default language if a translation is missing. Add or edit a translation from the language flags in the list, then edit its content in the Page Builder for that language. See Multilingual Content.
