Template Library

The Template Library is the catalogue of ready-made sections and full-page layouts that the page builder can insert into a page. Browse and preview everything here, and export or import layouts as packages.

Template Library screen with category sidebar and layout cards

Appearance → Template Library lists every layout. The sidebar groups them into Sections and Full pages, and by category.

What the library contains

The library is made of two kinds of layout:

Layouts are grouped by category. Besides the general categories (Hero, Features, Services, Pricing, FAQ, Contact, Call to Action, Testimonials, Process and so on) the library includes motion-led Cinematic sections, and module categories Booking and Shop & Products that are supplied by the Booking and TruCommerce modules. Those layouts show live services, staff or products, so they only display data when the matching module is enabled on your site. Layouts that were added in the latest release carry a New label.

Where you use layouts

You do not need this screen to insert a layout. The page builder has its own Template Library button that opens the same catalogue inside the editor — see Template Library in the Builder. This screen is for browsing, previewing, exporting and importing.

Where to find it

Open Appearance → Template Library. Like Website Templates it requires the import website templates permission.

Finding a layout

ControlWhat it does
Search layouts…Searches layout names. Press Enter to apply the search. The search keeps the category you have selected.
All layoutsShows every layout. The number is the total in the library.
NewAppears when the latest release added layouts. Lists only the new ones, sections and pages together.
Sections / Full pagesTwo groups of categories, each with a count. Choose a category such as Hero or Home Pages to list only those layouts.
PaginationLayouts are shown 24 at a time; use the page links under the grid to move on. Filters and search are kept while you page.
Template Library filtered to the Hero section category

Choosing a category (here Hero) lists only the layouts in it. Cards show a thumbnail, the category and the layout name.

Lock iconShown instead of the export icon on a premium layout when your license is not extended.
Export iconDownloads the layout as a .trucms.zip package so it can be imported on another TruCMS site. See Template Packages.
Category and nameThe category in capitals and the layout name below it.
Template Library filtered to the Home Pages full-page category

Full-page layouts are listed under their own group; thumbnails show the whole page, top to bottom.

Previewing a layout

Click any thumbnail. The layout opens in a new tab as it would look on a page, using your active theme, so you can scroll through it and test its hover and scroll effects. Previews of premium layouts are always available; only inserting them is restricted.

Importing a layout package

Import package (top right) lets you add a layout that was exported from another TruCMS site, or supplied by a designer. The package is checked first and nothing is imported until you confirm. Details, limits and safety checks are described in Template Packages.

Import a layout package dialog on the Template Library screen

The package dialog on this screen accepts layout packages. Website packages are imported from the Website Templates screen instead.

Each screen imports its own kind of package

If you upload a website-template package here, or a layout package on the Website Templates screen, TruCMS tells you which screen to use instead. This prevents a whole site from being added by accident.

Premium layouts and licenses

Premium layouts are included in the catalogue so you can see what is available. Previewing them is free. Inserting one in the page builder, and exporting one as a package, requires an Extended License. Without it the card shows Extended license required and the markup of the layout is never sent to your browser.

Empty library

A brand-new installation normally contains the full library. If the screen says The Template Library is empty. Import a layout package to add one., the catalogue has not been published yet; contact your host or developer, or import a layout package.
