Mail Settings

Set up outgoing email for TruCMS and every enabled module that depends on the shared mail configuration.

Mail settings page in TruCMS

Mail settings choose the delivery driver and sender identity used for application email.

What Mail settings affect

Mail settings are shared across TruCMS. They control how outgoing application email is delivered and which sender name/address recipients see. Core account messages and module notifications can depend on this same configuration, so one incorrect SMTP value can affect Booking confirmations, store messages and other email at the same time.

Choose the delivery method first

Mail DriverUse it whenImportant behavior
SMTPYour mail provider gives you an SMTP host, port and credentials.Recommended for most production sites because delivery is handled by a dedicated mail service.
SendmailThe hosting server is already configured to send mail through a local Sendmail-compatible command.Requires the correct Sendmail path from the server/host.
Log All EmailsYou are testing/troubleshooting and intentionally do not want messages delivered.Email content is written to application logs instead of being sent.
SMTP / Log if SMTP FailsYou want SMTP delivery but also want failed SMTP attempts recorded for diagnosis.TruCMS tries SMTP first; if SMTP fails, it logs the email. Logging is not a second delivery provider.

Set the sender identity

From Name should be the business/site name recipients recognize. From Email should be an address your mail provider/domain is authorized to send from. Many providers reject or rewrite messages when the From address is outside the verified domain.

Set up SMTP

  1. Obtain SMTP settings from your email provider: host, port, security/encryption, username and password.
  2. Confirm the provider allows the From Email address you plan to use.
  3. Open Settings → Mail and select SMTP.
  4. Enter SMTP Host, SMTP Port, the security choice (No Encryption, SSL or TLS), SMTP Username and SMTP Password.
  5. Save changes.
  6. Trigger a harmless real email workflow using a test account and confirm the message arrives with the expected sender.

SMTP fields appear when SMTP is selected. Enter the connection values supplied by your mail provider and test delivery.

Copy the port and encryption as a pair

Do not guess. A provider may require a specific port for TLS or SSL, and a mismatch is a common reason SMTP cannot connect.

Set up Sendmail

Sendmail relies on the server's local mail transport rather than an external SMTP login.

  1. Ask your hosting provider whether a Sendmail-compatible command is available and obtain its exact path/arguments.
  2. Select Sendmail.
  3. Enter the supplied Sendmail Path, set From Name/Email, and save.
  4. Send a test notification and check both delivery and the server's mail policy if it does not arrive.

If your host does not operate a reliable local mail service, SMTP is normally the better production choice.

Use Log All Emails for diagnosis

Log All Emails deliberately prevents normal delivery and records the outgoing email instead. Use it on a staging site or temporarily while checking template/content behavior.

Do not leave Log All Emails enabled on a live site expecting customer email

Booking confirmations, account messages and store notifications will not be delivered while this driver is selected.

SMTP / Log if SMTP Fails

This option uses the same SMTP fields as the SMTP driver. If SMTP cannot send, TruCMS writes the failed email to logs so an administrator can diagnose the problem. It does not send the message through another email provider.

After changing Mail settings

Test more than one type of email if your site uses multiple modules. For example, confirm a core account email and a Booking/TruCommerce notification rather than assuming one successful message proves every workflow is configured correctly.

There is no separate Mail test button in this settings page

Use a safe workflow with a test recipient and avoid customer data while testing delivery.
