Patches

Use Patches for small, official TruCMS fixes that are released for your installed version without requiring you to perform a full manual application upgrade.

Official TruCMS patches screen in the Admin Panel

The Patches screen lists official patches supplied through TruCMS and makes eligible patches available in order.

What a patch is

A patch is a targeted correction released by the TruCMS team for a particular TruCMS version. A patch may correct a bug or adjust a small part of the application while you remain on the same main release. It is different from a normal content change, plugin installation, or full TruCMS version update.

The Patches page is a list of patches currently made available to your installation. It is not a general-purpose ZIP uploader.

Only apply patches released by TruCMS

No third party is authorized to provide TruCMS application patches or updates. Do not install files described as a TruCMS patch if they came from another developer, a forum, an unofficial download site, or an unknown sender. Apply only patches presented through the official TruCMS patch/update service.

When to use Patches

Use this page when TruCMS presents a patch for the version you currently have installed. If you are moving to a newer full release, follow Updating TruCMS instead.

You do not need to “find” patches on the internet. When an official patch is available for your installation, it appears in this administration area with its release information and an Apply Patch action.

Understanding the Patches page

ItemWhat it tells you
Patch messageA short description supplied with the patch so you can identify the correction being offered.
ReleasedThe release date of the patch.
for v…The TruCMS version the patch is intended to be applied to. This helps prevent a patch intended for one release from being treated as a generic fix for another.
Apply PatchDownloads and applies the next eligible official patch. If the button is disabled, that patch is not currently the next patch you should apply or it has already been recorded as applied.

When several patches are available, TruCMS controls the order in which they can be applied. Apply the enabled patch first; after it completes, return to the page to see whether another patch is now eligible.

Before applying a patch

  1. Make a current backup of the site files and database.
  2. Check the patch description and the version shown on the Patches page.
  3. Choose a quiet period if the site is processing live bookings, orders, or payments.
  4. If the correction affects a critical customer workflow, consider enabling Maintenance Mode for the short maintenance window.
  5. Apply only the patch that TruCMS currently enables.

The same backup rule applies to patches

A patch is smaller than a full release, but it still changes application files and runs the application update process. Do not treat it as risk-free maintenance.

Applying an available patch

  1. Open Patches in the administration area.
  2. Review the patch message, release date, and required TruCMS version.
  3. Click Apply Patch on the enabled patch.
  4. Keep the request running while TruCMS obtains the official patch, applies it, and completes the associated update work.
  5. Return to the Patches page and confirm the patch is no longer offered as the next unapplied patch.
  6. Test the area described by the patch and at least one normal sign-in/public-site workflow.

If the list is empty

An empty Patches page means there is currently no official patch being offered to your installation. There is nothing you need to upload manually to make the list appear.

Do not use plugin packages, theme packages, or files sent by another party as a substitute. Wait for an official patch or follow the normal TruCMS update process when a full release is available.

What to check after a patch

Start with the feature mentioned in the patch message, then check the surrounding workflow. For example, if a patch relates to Booking payments, test the Booking checkout and verify that TruPayments still records the transaction as expected. If a patch affects store checkout, test the TruCommerce cart, shipping/tax calculation, and payment selection together.

Keep your backup until you are satisfied that the patch is operating normally.
