Creating a Database for TruCMS

Create the empty database and save the connection details required by the installer.

What you need to create

TruCMS needs an empty database plus a database user that can create and manage the application's tables during installation. You do not need to create tables manually—the installer performs the application setup after it successfully connects.

Values to keep ready

ValueGuidance
Database HostUsually 127.0.0.1, localhost, or a database hostname supplied by your host.
Database PortThe installer defaults to 3306. Use the port supplied by your hosting provider if it differs.
Database NameThe empty database created for this TruCMS installation.
DB UsernameA database user with permission to use the TruCMS database.
DB PasswordThe password assigned to that database user.

Using a hosting control panel

In cPanel, Plesk or a similar hosting panel, the usual process is to create a database, create a database user, and then assign that user to the database with the permissions needed to create and update tables. phpMyAdmin can manage an existing database, but many shared hosts require the database and user to be created from the hosting panel first.

Use a dedicated database user

Using a database account specifically for TruCMS makes access easier to manage and avoids giving the application permission to unrelated databases on the same server.

Keep credentials private

Do not include the database password in screenshots, support tickets, documentation or public repositories. You will enter it only on the protected installer screen.

If the installer cannot connect

Recheck all five values, especially the host and the exact database/user prefixes added by shared hosting panels. Also confirm that the user is assigned to the database. A successful login to the hosting panel does not automatically mean the database account has access to the new database.
